Steve Neale and Rick Vickers moved to our neighborhood Labor Day weekend 2006 from Riverside, California. Their home is at 3016 N. 16th Avenue and they are very pleased to win the Point of Pride award. They first visited some friends living in Paradise Valley in 1998 and fell in love with Phoenix. They found this home on the internet. Prior to the 16th Avenue home, they had always bought new homes, so that’s where they started when they were first looking for a home. Neale works for Claim Jumper restaurant and tends to move around to the various sites in his job, so they wanted something centrally located and started looking in downtown Phoenix.“There was just something about this particular house,” said Neale.
Vickers added, “We chose this one over a brand new 2,600 square foot home.”
They haven’t done much to the exterior of the home besides doing new windows. However they are gradually decorating the interior and they added a pool to the side yard in the backyard.
They enjoy the neighborhood and it’s quietness and friendliness. Vickers said he’ll be in the front yard and people will drive by and wave that he doesn’t even know.
They are looking forward to visiting more Arizona sites like the Grand Canyon and possibly experiencing tubing down the Salt River.
Neale and Vickers received a gift certificate to Southwest Gardener and have the sign in their yard through the summer. If you see them out front congratulate them and welcome them to Phoenix. If you have a home (it can even be yours) that you’d like to nominate, please contact Ardie Lewis at (602) 271-0707 or ajconv@aol.com with the address prior to August 30.
